Joseph Mulla is originally from a suburb outside of Chicago, and has lived in North or South Carolina for the last 18 years.  Joe joined the Marine Corps after high school and spent nine years on active duty working on aviation electronics. His post-military career includes career & financial counseling to military members leaving the service, along with obtaining his B.S. from Park University as well as an MBA and an M.S. in Finance, both from Webster University.  Joe’s current role at TIAA is Product Manager where he provides front-line expertise, training, and education to financial advisors working with clients around the country. He also serves as the National Membership Chair of the company’s Veteran employee resource group, “Our Corps.” When he’s not at work, you can find him at the gym, hiking the local trails, and enjoying time with his wife of 18 years, Jodi, and their cat Deet.  Joe is obtaining his Doctorate of Business Administration in order to further his knowledge in the field and make a true impact to his organization. He’s also interested in teaching one day, and wants to obtain his doctorate in order to provide the highest quality of education to those he will someday teach.

Joe’s research interest analyzes behavioral finance and the effects of financial technology (FinTech) on consumer saving and investing habits.  While behavioral finance and FinTech have been researched independently, Joe intends to analyze the impacts that FinTech has had on how and why people invest the way that they do, and how it’s impacting retirement saving and investing rates.
