William A. (Bill) Sofsky, CPA

Dr. Sofsky originally joined the faculty at UNC Charlotte as a Lecturer in Accounting in 2015 and was promoted to Clinical Assistant Professor after earning his DBA.

Prior to starting his teaching career, Dr. Sofsky worked in accounting and finance roles in various companies for more than 30 years.  After starting his career in public accounting, he worked in Accounting, Finance and Treasury roles in the insurance industry for the twenty-six years. During his insurance industry career, Dr. Sofsky worked for international insurance groups including four years of international experience in The Netherlands. Just prior to starting his teaching career, he served as the Chief Accounting Officer of the US Life operations of a large global reinsurance company.

Dr. Sofsky is a Certified Public Accountant currently licensed in North Carolina and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute.

In addition to his DBA, Dr. Sofsky holds a BBA in Accounting and an MBA in Finance, both from Loyola University Maryland.  

Dr. Sofsky’s research interests include accounting and financial reporting, risk management and insurance and education research related to undergraduate level accounting courses regarding course design, testing and content delivery techniques to improve student performance and retention.
