Dr. Lawrence Haynes
DBA Alumnus Class of 2020
Project Manager, Leidos, Inc.

Background

Lawrence is a project manager for Leidos Corporation where he has worked for the last 25 years; Leidos is a global provider in the integration and application of science and technology to solve customer challenges. Lawrence holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and has developed customer management systems, planning systems, and has worked with subcontractors to develop new products. He participated in the development of medical devices that went through FDA approval, and a Hospital Information System that is used in US military medical facilities. Lawrence has been involved with the marketing and sales of developed products, as well as product and organizational strategic planning.

Lawrence is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the non-profit Illumination Foundation (IF). The mission of IF is to provide targeted, interdisciplinary services for the most vulnerable homeless clients in order to break the cycle of homelessness. IF started as a team project while Lawrence was attaining his MBA and has grown into one of the leading providers in Southern California of services for the homeless including medical care and housing.

There are many reasons that Lawrence pursued the DBA program including 1) to better support the homeless foundation in which he is involved, 2) to support a startup, 3) to improve the processes where he is currently employed, and finally, 4) to continually learn in today’s rapidly changing environment.  Knowledge gained yesterday is now outdated in today’s rapidly changing environment; one’s knowledge must be continually updated otherwise one becomes irrelevant in today’s business world.

Research Interest

Lawrence is interested in the root causes of project failures. Few projects are successfully executed causing the company to lose money, reputation and to use resources that could have been bettered used elsewhere. Project management is essential since projects are the means to accomplish a desired outcome. Determining the root causes of project failures may help in providing guidance for successful project completion.
